A Tribute to my Niece, Jennifer Briesacher

Author’s Note:  On June 9th, my niece, Jennifer Briesacher died from a Brain Aneurism while over 7 months pregnant.  The child is ok, but Jennifer never recovered.  This poem is my tribute to her.  I will miss her always.

DO YOU KNOW THE DAY?

Do you know the day, my Little Jenny-Poo?

Why Oh yes, Oh yes I do!

Today is the Day when I first met you.

With my Mommy and Daddy I came for all to see

Finally sitting down on my Grampa’s knee.

Over there is Sheba; that’s my little pet doggie

She kept me safe from the dark and the days that are foggy.

I sleep in my crib; and the dreams that I had

That were helped along with my own bumper pads.

Sometimes I stayed at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s abode

But coming home I see the corn but “Gramma, where did the moo-cows go?”

Do you know the Day, my Little Jenny-Poo?

Why Oh yes, Oh yes I do!

For this is my First Day of school.

I learn my ABC’s and 123’s

I learn my prayers and to love one another

That is until Mommy and Daddy came home with something new-

A little Baby Brother!

Well, he kinda looks like me and he does have my smile,

So I guess it’s OK if he stays for a while.

Do you know the Day, my Little Jenny-Poo?

Why Oh yes, Oh yes I do.

Today is the Day that I know God, too!

All dressed in white, I eat and drink of the Lamb

And then I see the Spirit descend under the Bishops own hand!

I kept them with me all day and all night

And pray to God that everyone will be all right!

Do you know the Day, my Little Jenny-Poo?

Why Oh yes, Oh yes I do!

Today is the Day when I am like you!

I have my diplomas from high school and more,

Once I was a girl but now I am a woman, therefore.

The world is in front of me so everyone beware

Especially that tall guy who at me likes to stare!

Do you know the Day, my Little Jenny-Poo?

Why Oh yes, but of course it’s true!

Today is the Day I say to him, “I Do.”

That Boy with the stare, that made me want to stare back,

And now my name is his, when the skies are both Blue or Black.

I have my first child, then a second, and now there’s another

I gave them my love, and that is no wonder.

My love will continue, yet it won’t be the same,

But my love for them will always remain.

Do you know the Day, my Little Jenny-Poo?

Why Oh yes, indeed I do!

Today is the Day when I go ahead of you.

The place where I go is already made,

By Grandma’s and Grandpa’s and from my families on all sides,

But now it is  time I finally give my unmet Brother his first piggyback ride.

But before I go; one last Motherly tip.

The sorrow you have may seem to be eternal

But the love you share will be always immortal.

Keep me in your heart as you are in mine,

The world may be in trouble, but I know that you will be fine.

Do you know the Day, my Little Jenny-Poo?

Why Oh yes, Oh yes I do!

Today is the Day where I spread my love to all of you.
